God’s Plan For You

The journey of life is best seen as three journeys.

The Jesus Journey

Jesus has the longest adventure of all. He left Heaven to become human in order to be our Redeemer. Here are some main checkpoints of His Journey:

  • He was predicted to come to earth from the beginning (Genesis 3:15) as the seed of woman (a virgin birth).
  • He was born and lived on this earth in fulfillment of many Old Testament predictions, so that we would know He was the real Savior.
  • Jesus faced life as every common person does, but never once sinned. Thus He was qualified to be the Savior to die for all of our sins.
  • After giving His life on the cross Jesus was raised from the dead, our certain proof that He was victorious and that the price for our sin was paid in full.
  • For forty days Jesus appeared to hundreds of people to prove His resurrection and then told all believers to tell the world the Good News that all who trust Him as Lord will have everlasting life.
  • Jesus then ascended to Heaven with a promise to return in Glory someday.

Now your life is composed of two journeys.

Your First Journey

First is the Journey that begins when you are conceived. It is the journey to awareness. You become aware of life and growth. You go to school, make friends, and more. You may have some important mile markers on this journey: graduation, career choice, marriage and others are important moments that are a part of this, your first journey.

As you grow up you become aware that something is wrong in this world. You realize that there is also something wrong within yourself. You know that there is right and wrong and that you may not always choose right. You become aware that a perfect God could never accept you into a perfect Heaven someday. The awareness is that for your journey to end with a heavenly destination a change must take effect.

At this point you are ready to end your first Journey and begin your second journey.

Your Second Journey

Your second journey begins the moment you make the decision to trust Jesus as your own Lord. The decision is mapped out for us in Romans 10:9 “If you will confess with your mouth, “Lord, Jesus”, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Note, there are two things in this verse that, if done, would allow Jesus to give you eternal life and a new road upon which to travel in this life.

Let’s take the last part of the verse first. “Believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead…” Why must I believe in the resurrection of Jesus? Because the resurrection would not be possible had not Jesus done everything His heavenly Father had required. When God raised Jesus He was saying that His sacrifice was acceptable. Besides, why would you believe God could raise you from the dead someday if you didn’t believe He could raise His own Son?

Now, if you believe that Jesus rose from the dead you only have one thing left to do, “confess with your mouth, ‘Lord, Jesus’”. In calling Jesus Lord you are calling Him the Owner of your life. You are allowing Him to be the boss in your life.

This can’t be done lightly. You must seriously give Him your life. A prayer of commitment could go like this:

“Jesus, I know I am often wrong and that my sin is a serious barrier between us. I thank you for taking the punishment for my sin when you died on the cross. Jesus, I believe you rose from the dead and right now I give you my life. Please be my Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me. Amen.”

When you make this important decision you are ending your first journey and beginning your second journey. The Bible calls it “born again.” It is a totally new start wherein Heaven is your certain destination and the path between here and there is an adventure of following Jesus as you seek the most meaningful life possible.
